The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met in a televised session at 9:06 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Hon. Diane Marleau, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Charlie Angus, Diane Bourgeois, Patrick Brown, Mark Holland, Daryl Kramp, Hon. Diane Marleau, James Moore and Chris Warkentin.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Roy Cullen for Raymonde Folco, David J. McGuinty for Raymonde Folco, Serge Ménard for Meili Faille, Hon. Robert Thibault for Mario Silva and David Tilson for Harold Albrecht.

 

Other Members present: Bill Casey.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Philippe Le Goff, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Michael Fortier, Minister of Public Works and Government Services.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2008-2009: Votes 1 and 5 under PUBLIC WORKS AND GOVERNMENT SERVICES.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with Tim McGrath, Liliane saint pierre and François Guimont, answered questions.

 

At 10:35 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:37 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Diane Bourgeois moved, — That the Committee ask the Office of the Auditor General of Canada to investigate the process by which the Department of Public Works and Government Services awarded contract EN869-040407/001/EL-000 to CGI Information Systems and Management Consultants Inc on October 31, 2007, in light of the allegations that Don Powell, President of TPG Technology Consulting Ltd., made during a press conference on March 31, 2008.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 5.

 

At 10:58 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
