The Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Rob Anders, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Rob Anders, Ron Cannan, Roger Gaudet, Hon. Albina Guarnieri, Betty Hinton, Gilles-A. Perron, Todd Norman Russell, Bev Shipley, Brent St. Denis, Peter Stoffer, David Sweet and Roger Valley.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michel Rossignol, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Public Health Agency of Canada: John Cox, Acting Director, Division of Ageing and Seniors; Claude Rocan, Director General, Centre for Health Promotion. Canadian Institutes of Health Research: Linda Mealing, Assistant Director, Partnerships, Institute of Aging. Department of Health: Nancy Milroy-Swainson, Director, Chronic and Continuing Care Division. Health Policy Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) the Committee resumed its study of Veterans Health Care Review and Veterans Independence Program.
 

Claude Rocan made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the document entitled “Submission to ACVA on the Veterans Independence Program by the army, navy and air force Veterans in Canada association (ANAVETS)”, presented by Lorne McCartney / ANAVETS, who could not appear at our meeting of December 13 2007 because of an illness, be appended to the Evidence of that Committee meeting.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee travel to Goose Bay on February 13, 2008 instead of February 15, 2008, if the accomodations can be made with CFB Goose Bay in relation to its study on Veterans Health Care Review and Veterans Independence Program.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 118,434, for the Committee’s travel to CFB Shearwater, CFB Goose Bay, CFB Comox and CFB Cold Lake in February 2008 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

At 5:22 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
