The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised session at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Brian Fitzpatrick, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: David Christopherson, Brian Fitzpatrick, Jean-Yves Laforest, Mike Lake, Pierre Poilievre, Pablo Rodriguez, Jean-Yves Roy, Hon. Judy Sgro, David Sweet, John Williams and Borys Wrzesnewskyj.

 

Acting Members present: Anthony Rota for Hon. Shawn Murphy.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alex Smith, Analyst; Lydia Scratch, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Royal Canadian Mounted Police: David Gork, Assistant Commissioner; Garry Roy, Senior Policy Analyst, Disability Program & Services; Fraser Macaulay, Chief Superintendent; Mike Frizzell, Staff Sergeant, Strategic and Operational Support, National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre. Great-West Life Assurance Company: Jeff Kitchen; Peter Foley; Frank Pattie, (retired). Morneau Sobeco: Francine Pell. As individuals: Pat Casey; Dominic Crupi; Jeff Molson.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(g), the Committee resumed consideration of Chapter 9, Pension and Insurance Administration - Royal Canadian Mounted Police of the November 2006 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.
 

On motion of John Williams, it was agreed, — That the Chair of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts write to Bob Paulson, Chief Superintendent of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to ask him to stop his investigation.

 

The witnesses were sworn in

 

Peter Foley, Francine Pell, Pat Casey, Jeff Molson and Garry Roy made opening statements and, with David Gork, Frank Pattie, Dominic Crupi, Mike Frizzell and Fraser Macaulay, answered questions.

 

Mr. Laforest gave notice of the following motion:

That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee address the report by the Auditor General of Canada presented on June 12, 2007, and undertake a study of the issues it raises by inviting the following to appear:

-The Auditor General of Quebec, Renaud Lachance,

-Sheila Fraser, Auditor General of Canada,

-Lise Thibault, the former Lieutenant-Governor of Québec.

 

At 6:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
