The Standing Committee on National Defence met in a televised session at 8:50 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Rick Casson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Dawn Black, Robert Bouchard, John Cannis, Rick Casson, Hon. Denis Coderre, Cheryl Gallant, Laurie Hawn and Russ Hiebert.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett for Hon. Joe McGuire, Dean Del Mastro for Steven Blaney and Hon. Robert Thibault for Hon. Keith Martin.

 

Associate Members present: Luc Harvey.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: North Atlantic Treaty Organization: Gen Raymond R. Henault, Chairman, Military Committee; LCol Anthony White, Public Information Officer to the Chairman, Military Committee.

 

Participants present: Department of National Defence: BGen A. J. Howard, Director General.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted Wednesday, October 4, 2006, the Committee proceeded to a briefing on the status and progress of Canadian involvement in Afghanistan.
 

Brigadier-General Howard made a statement and answered questions.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on May 16, 2006, the Committee resumed its study of Canadian Forces in Afghanistan.
 

General Hénault made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 11:21 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
