The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in a televised session at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Norman Doyle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Omar Alghabra, Barry Devolin, Norman Doyle, Meili Faille, Raymond Gravel, Rahim Jaffer, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, Ed Komarnicki, Bill Siksay and Hon. Andrew Telegdi.

 

Acting Members present: Raymonde Folco for Blair Wilson and Bev Shipley for Nina Grewal.

 

Other Members present: Hon. John McKay.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Andrew Kitching, Analyst; Trupati Patel, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Diane Finley, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.

 

Witnesses: Lost Canadian Organization: Don Chapman. Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Richard Fadden, Deputy Minister.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 1, 2007, the Committee commenced its study of Loss of Canadian Citizenhship for the years 1947, 1977 and 2007 .
 

The Minister made a statement and, with the Deputy Minister, answered questions.

 

At 1:04 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:05 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Andrew Telegdi moved, — That the Committee continue sitting till 1:30 p.m. and receive testimony from Don Chapman.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Omar Alghabra, Meili Faille, Raymonde Folco, Raymond Gravel, Jim Karygiannis, Andrew Telegdi — 6; NAYS: Barry Devolin, Rahim Jaffer, Ed Komarnicki, Bev Shipley, Bill Siksay — 5.

 

The witness made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 1:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
