The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in a televised session at 9:01 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Norman Doyle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Johanne Deschamps, Barry Devolin, Norman Doyle, Meili Faille, Raymonde Folco, Nina Grewal, Rahim Jaffer, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, Ed Komarnicki, Bill Siksay, Hon. Andrew Telegdi and Blair Wilson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Margaret Young, Analyst; Andrew Kitching, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Monte Solberg, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.

 

Witnesses: Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Richard Fadden, Deputy Minister; Wayne Ganim, Chief Financial Officer, Director General Finance Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (A) 2006-2007: Votes 1a, 2a, 5a and 10a under the CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION referred to the Committee on Monday, October 30, 2006.
 

Hon. Monte Solberg made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

Jim Karygiannis moved, — That the Committee continue to question the Minister until 11:00 a.m. and that the votes be considered at the next meeting of the Committee.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 4.

 

Rahim Jaffer moved, — That the Committee proceed to consider of the votes in the Supplementary Estimates (A) referred to the Committee.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 4.

 

The Chair calls Vote 1a under Citizenship and Immigration.

 

Vote 1a carried.

 

It was agreed - That the remaining votes be considered at the next meeting of the Committee.

 

At 11:01 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
