The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met in a televised session at 3:36 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D Centre Block, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, Marcel Gagnon, Marc Godbout, Guy Lauzon, Diane Marleau, Pat Martin, Joe Preston, Francis Scarpaleggia, Paul Szabo and Louise Thibault.

 

Acting Members present: Navdeep Bains for Ken Boshcoff, Guy Côté for Marcel Gagnon, Nancy Karetak-Lindell for Ken Boshcoff and Pierre Poilievre for Randy White.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Philippe Le Goff, Analyst; Tara Gray, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an Individual: Moya Greene. Canada Post Corporation: Gordon Feeney, Chairman, Board of Directors.

 
Pursuant to Standing Orders 108(2), 110 and 111, the Committee commenced consideration of the certificate of nomination and selection process of Moya Greene to the position of President of the Canada Post Corporation which was referred to the Committee on April 11, 2005.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:07 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:10 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Guy Lauzon moved, — That Former Canada Post President André Ouellet be summoned to appear before the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates to discuss Deloitte and Touche's report on Canada Post's sponsorship, marketing and advertising activities.

Debate arose thereon.

 

On motion of Paul Szabo, it was agreed, — That the motion be amended by replacing the word “summoned” with the word “called”.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to.

 

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That Former Canada Post President André Ouellet be called to appear before the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates to discuss Deloitte & Touche's report on Canada Post's sponsorship, marketing and advertising activities.

 

The question: "That the Law Clerk and the Parliamentary Counsel be invited to appear to discuss sections 14 and 15 of the Parliament of Canada Act" was put and was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 0.

 

At 5:36 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
