The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 705 La Promenade Building, the Chair, Raymonde Folco, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Peter Adams, Hon. Eleni Bakopanos, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Barry Devolin, Raymonde Folco, Paul Forseth, Christiane Gagnon, Yves Lessard, Tony Martin, Yasmin Ratansi and Peter Van Loan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, Analyst; Chantal Collin, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Belinda Stronach, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development; Hon. Peter Adams, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development.

 

Witnesses: Department of Human Resources and Skills Development: Diane Carroll, Assistant Deputy Minister, Employment Programs Policy and Design; Alan Nymark, Deputy Minister; Bill James, Director General, Employment Insurance Policy. Department of Finance: Réal Bouchard, Director General, Federal-Provincial Relations and Social Policy Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of the Government Response to the Report on Employment Insurance Funds.
 

Christiane Gagnon moved, — That the Committee proceed immediately to the clause-by-clause study of Bill C 280.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 3; NAYS: 7.

 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 1:04 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
