The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Paul Steckle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: David L. Anderson, André Bellavance, Hon. Mark Eyking, Réal Lapierre, Larry Miller, Gerry Ritz, David Smith, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.

 

Acting Members present: Bradley R. Trost for James Bezan and Jeff Watson for Gerry Ritz.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal.

 

Witnesses: Casco Inc.: Jim Grey, President. Manitoba Corn Growers Association/Canadian Corn Producers: Theresa Bergsma, Secretary-Manager. Ontario Corn Producers' Association: Brian Doidge, General Manager. Spirits Canada / The Association of Canadian Distillers: Jan Westcott, President and Chief Executive Officer; CJ Helie, Executive Vice-President; Kirsten Goodwin, Barrister & Solicitor, Trade Counsel. Federation of Quebec Producers of Cash Crops: Benoit Legault, General Manager. Canadian Renewable Fuels Association: Kory Teneycke, Executive Director; Bliss Baker, Vice-President, Business Development and Government Affairs, Commercial Alcohols Inc.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on September 28, 2005, the Committee resumed its study on corn imports from the United States.
 

Jim Grey, Kory Teneycke, Bliss Baker and Jan Wescott made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:32 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Brian Doidge made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
