Meeting No. 18

Tuesday, March 18, 2003

The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Tony Valeri, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Carolyn Bennett, Ken Epp, Paul Forseth, Judy Sgro, Paul Szabo, Tony Tirabassi and Tony Valeri.

Acting Members present: John Bryden for Roy Cullen; The Right Hon. Joe Clark for Scott Brison.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament:  Jack Stilborn, Analyst and Nancy Holmes, Analyst.

Witness: From the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada: George Radwanski, Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(c)(vi), consideration of the Annual Report of the Privacy Commissioner.

The witness made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 3:37 p.m., Paul Forseth took the Chair.

John Bryden gave notice of the following motions:

That Privacy Commissioner George Radwanski be asked to give this Committee written reasons in support of his assertion that he does not believe the Office of the Privacy Commissioner should be included under the Access to Information Act. This information is to be presented to the Committee within one month.

That Privacy Commissioner George Radwanski be required to provide this Committee with a descriptive breakdown of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner that will include job descriptions of each person. This information is to be presented to the Committee within one month.

That Privacy Commissioner George Radwanski be required to provide this Committee with his personal expense accounts for a period of two years as prepared according to Treasury Board guidelines. This information to be presented to the Committee within one month.

That Privacy Commissioner George Radwanski be asked to provide this Committee with the list of organizations and persons who are to receive the press releases issued from his office.

At 5:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
