The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 11:13 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Tom Wappel, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Andy Burton, John Cummins, R. John Efford, Loyola Hearn, Bill Matthews, Joe Peschisolido, Carmen Provenzano, Jean-Yves Roy, Peter Stoffer, Tom Wappel, Bob Wood.

Acting Members present: Paddy Torsney for Rodger Cuzner, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay for Georges Farrah.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: François Côté and Alan Nixon, research officers.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4) and the Order of reference from the House of Commons dated Wednesday, February 26, 2003, the Committee resumed consideration of Votes 1, 5 and 10 under FISHERIES AND OCEANS in the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2004 (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, March 18, 2003, Meeting No. 21).

The Chair called Vote 1.

Debate arose thereon.

At 11:24 a.m., the Committee proceeded to the consideration of its future business.

At 11:33 a.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on the management of the Fraser River salmon fishery (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, January 30, 2003, Meeting No. 11).

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

At 11:36 a.m., the Committee resumed sitting in public.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4) and the Order of reference from the House of Commons dated Wednesday, February 26, 2003, the Committee resumed consideration of Votes 1, 5 and 10 under FISHERIES AND OCEANS in the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2004 (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, March 18, 2003, Meeting No. 21).

Votes 1, 5 and 10 carried severally on division.

ORDERED, That the Chair report Votes 1, 5 and 10 under FISHERIES AND OCEANS, less the amounts granted in Interim Supply, to the House.

At 11:38 a.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on the management of the Fraser River salmon fishery (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, January 30, 2003, Meeting No. 11).

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

At 12:23 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:27 p.m., the sitting resumed.

At 1:10 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
