The Standing Committee on Finance met at 9:00 a.m. this day, in the Harbourside Ballroom 1, Renaissance Vancouver Hotel, Vancouver, British Columbia, the Chair, Sue Barnes, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Nick Discepola, Sophia Leung and Monte Solberg.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Principal ; Blayne Haggart, Analyst.

Witnesses: David Suzuki Foundation: Jim Fulton, Executive Director. Canadian Federation of the Humanities and Social Sciences: Donald Fisher, Vice-President, Research Dissemination. Fuel Cells Canada: Ronald W. Britton, President and CEO; Christopher T. Curtis, Vice President. As Individual: Thomas Calvert, Acting Director of Information Technology Program, Simon Fraser University; Alain Deschenes, Graduate Student, School of Interactive Arts and Technology - Simon Fraser University. Vancouver Board of Trade: Janette Pantry, Vice Chair; Rick Mahler, Director. Confederation of University Faculty Associations of British Columbia: Rick Coe, President. City of Vancouver: Anne Roberts, Councillor; Carol Ann Young, Coordinator, Child Development. Pursuant to Standing Order 83(1), the Committee resumed its pre-budget consultations.

Panel I: Jim Fulton, Donald Fisher, Ronald W. Britton, Thomas Calvert and Alain Deschesnes made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 10:24 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:32 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Panel II: Rick Mahler, Janette Pantry, Rick Coe, Ann Roberts, Carol Ann Young and John Watson made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 11:50 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
