Meeting No. 2

Tuesday, December 3, 2002

The Legislative Committee on Bill C-17 met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Bob Kilger, presiding.

Members of the Committee present:  Sarkis Assadourian, Claude Bachand, Robert Bertrand, Bev Desjarlais, Bob Kilger, Steve Mahoney, James Moore, Lynn Myers, John O'Reilly, Vic Toews.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: David R. Goetz, Margaret Young, Research Officers.

Appearing:  The Hon. David Collenette, Minister of Transport.

Witnesses:  From the Department of Transport: John A. Read, Director General, Safety and Security Group; Sherill Besser, Senior Counsel, Legal Services.

The Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-17, Public Safety Act 2002.

The Minister made a statement and, with the witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
