Meeting No. 70

Tuesday, June 4, 2002

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 9:04 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Sarmite Bulte, Claude Duplain, Christiane Gagnon, John Harvard, Wendy Lill, Clifford Lincoln, Dennis Mills, Chuck Strahl and Tony Tirabassi.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament:  Joseph Jackson, Terrence Thomas, research officers.  Consultant:   David Black.

Witnesses: From JUMP TV: Farrell Miller, President; Sunny Handa, Legal Counsel, Fasken Martineau. From the Canadian Recording Industry Association: Brian Robertson, President; Ken Thompson, Vice-President & General Counsel. From the Canadian Motion Picture Distributors Association: Douglas C. Frith, President; Susan Peacock, Vice-President. From the Canadian Film and Television Production Association: Stephen Stohn, Chair, Copyright and International Policy Committee; Beatrice Raffoul, Vice-President, External Relations.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Friday, February 22, 2002, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-48, An Act to amend the Copyright Act (See Minutes of Proceedings, Wednesday, May 29, 2002, Meeting No. 68).

At 9:04 a.m., the Vice-Chair, Dennis Mills, took the Chair.

The Committee resumed consideration of Clause 1.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 9:37 a.m., Clifford Lincoln took the Chair.

Statements and questions continued.

At 11:48 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
