Tuesday, December 7, 1999

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 3:25 p.m.,this day, in the Taylorton Room, Beefeater Inn and Motor Hotel in Estevan, Saskatchewan, the Chair, John Harvard, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Rick Borotsik, Garry Breitkreuz, Murray Calder, John Harvard, Larry McCormick, Joe McGuire, Dick Proctor.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch - Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Researcher; Jean-Denis Fréchette, Economist.

Witnesses: As Individual: Tom Cameron; Leroy Berry; Ed Keyowski; Ray Walton; Lee Stanley; Trevor Doty; Eric Wilmot; Mark Alexander. From the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool: Marvin Wiens, Vice-President. From the Saskatchewan Pulse Growers: Lyle Minogue, Director.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of the effectiveness of long-term safety nets and other national initiatives to provide the stability and environment necessary for stable growth in the agricultural industry.

Leroy Berry, Tom Cameron, Ed Keyowski and Ray Walton made opening statements and answered questions.

Mark Alexander, Trevor Doty, Lee Stanley and Eric Wilmot made opening statements and answered questions.

Lyle Minogue and Malvin Wiens made opening statements and answered questions.

Open Microphone Session:

Ian Cushon, George Godenir, Arlynn Kurtz, Jack Pick and Glen Seeman each made a statement.

At 7:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
