MINUTES OF PROCEEDING
(Meeting No. 63)

TUESDAY, MAY 12, 1998

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 3:30 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Robert Bertrand, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, Robert Bertrand, Hec Clouthier, Judi Longfield, John O’Reilly, David Pratt, George Proud, John Richardson and Pierrette Venne

Acting Members present: Ghislain Lebel for Maurice Godin and Elsie Wayne for David Price.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Michel Rossignol, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From Veterans Review & Appeal Board: Brian Chambers, Chairman. From the Department of Veterans Affairs Canada: Dennis Wallace, Assistant Deputy Minister; Brig.-Gen. Pierre Boutet; Bernard Butler, Assistant Director; Darrah Mogan, Director General, Health Care Veterans Services.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of a Review of the Social and Economic Challenges Facing Members of the Canadian Forces – Care of Injured, Retired and Veterans.

Denis Wallace and Brian Chambers made opening statements and, with the witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:05 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
