Meeting No. 38

MONDAY, MARCH 16, 1998

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 15:30 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Bob Mills, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: John Cannis, Maud Debien, Bill Graham, Gurmant Grewal, Ted McWhinney, Bob Mills, Julian Reed, Daniel Turp.

Acting Members present: Rick Laliberté for Svend Robinson.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Research Officer.

Witness: Bernard Giroux, Ambassador of Canada to the Union of Myanmar.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Orders 108 (2), 110(1) and 111, the Committee proceeded to examine Order in Council Appointment P.C. 1997-1592 of Bernard Giroux as Ambassador to the Union of Myanmar.

Bernard Giroux made a statement and answered questions.

At 4:32 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
