The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met jointly with the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs at 3:20 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Co-Chair, Pat O'Brien, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Hon. Sheila Finestone, Bill Graham, Daniel Turp.
Members of the Standing Committee of National Defence and Veterans Affairs present: Jim Hart, René Laurin, Pat O'Brien, Hec Clouthier, David Pratt.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Reseach Branch of the Library of Parliament: James Lee, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Jim Wright, Director General for Central East and South Europe. From the Department of National Defence: Lt-Gen Raymond R. Henault, Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff, OP ABACUS. From the Canadian International Development Agency: Charles Bassett, Vice-President, Central and Eastern Europe Branch. From the Citizenship and Immigration Canada: Jeff LeBane, Director General, International Relations.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its examination of the situation in Kosovo. (See the Minutes of Proceedings of March 31, 1999, Meeting No. 111.)
Lt-Gen Raymond R. Henault, Jim Wright, Jeff LeBane and Charles Bassett each made an opening statement and answered questions.
At 4:20 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
