NEWS RELEASE

2023 Centennial Flame Research Award - Rachel Quilty - Recipient

Ottawa, June 16, 2023 -

On Tuesday, June 13, 2023, the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities (the Committee) chose Rachel Quilty as the recipient of the 2023 edition of the Centennial Flame Research Award. The committee would like to thank everyone who applied.

Rachel Quilty’s work will examine the importance of Capable Con, an event that brings together people with and without disabilities. The project will discuss the significance of such events and amplify the voices of persons with disabilities, while encouraging everyone to break down barriers to full participation in society.

The Centennial Flame Research Award is granted each year by the Committee to a Canadian with a disability to enable them to conduct research and prepare a report on the contributions of one or more persons with disabilities to the public life of Canada or the activities of Parliament, in accordance with the Centennial Flame Research Award Act.

For the year 2023, the award amounts to $7,500. Funding for this award is collected from the Centennial Flame monument on Parliament Hill and from any monetary donations made to the Centennial Flame Research Award Fund.
