Committee Report on Canada’s Diplomatic Capacity

Ottawa, April 29, 2024 -

Today, the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development presented a report to the House of Commons entitled, Strengthening Canada’s Diplomatic Capacity in an Increasingly Turbulent Age.

The committee undertook this study in light of the significant challenges facing the rules-based international order that has kept Canada and its allies safe for decades, and in consideration of the impact that this geopolitical turbulence is having on Canadian interests. In summarizing the committee’s key findings, the report establishes the need for reforms to – and investments in – Canada’s diplomatic machinery to ensure that Canada can defend and advance its interests in a changed world. These reforms and investments are necessary to enhance Canada’s global influence, reinforce its capabilities, strengthen its reputation among allies and partners, and ensure its ability to anticipate and manage recurrent crises.

The full report may be read on the committee’s website.
