The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met in a televised session at 8:46 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Hoang Mai, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Peter Braid, Ed Komarnicki, Hoang Mai, David J. McGuinty, Isabelle Morin, Mike Sullivan, Lawrence Toet, Jeff Watson and Wai Young.

 

Acting Members present: Bob Zimmer for Lawrence Toet.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Padova, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Fertilizer Institute: Roger Larson, President. Chemistry Industry Association of Canada: Fiona Cook, Director, Business and Economics; Marty Cove, Manager, Logistics, Canexus Corporation. Canadian Association of Chemical Distributors: Jim Bird, Environmental Health and Safety Manager, Univar Canada Limited.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, November 18, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of the review of the Canadian transportation safety regime: transportation of dangerous goods and safety management systems.
 

Roger Larson, Fiona Cook, Marty Cove and Jim Bird made statements and answered questions.

 

Jeff Watson moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee undertake a study, as suggested by the Standing Committee on Finance in their motion adopted on April 29, 2014, of the subject matter of clauses 212 to 233 and clause 375 of Bill C-31, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 11, 2014 and other measures; and that the meeting on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 be dedicated to the study.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 0.

 

At 10:45 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
