The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met in a video recorded session at 8:46 a.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, Kelly Block, Blaine Calkins, Joan Crockatt, Ryan Leef, Hon. Geoff Regan and Brad Trost.

 

Acting Members present: Pierre Dionne Labelle for Chris Charlton, Pierre Jacob for Linda Duncan, Megan Anissa Leslie for Christine Moore and Irene Mathyssen for Linda Duncan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst; Milana Simikian, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Energy Research Institute: Peter Howard, President and Chief Executive Officer. 3twenty Modular: Bryan McCrea, Chief Executive Officer. TransCanada PipeLines Limited: John Van Der Put, Vice-President, Energy East Pipeline.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, December 9, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of the cross-Canada benefits of developing the oil and gas industry of the energy sector.
 

John Van Der Put, Peter Howard, by videoconference from Calgary, Alberta and Brian McCrea, by videoconference from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:03 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:05 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee undertake a study to identify opportunities for Canada and Canadian industry to contribute to the global diversification of energy supply to Ukraine and the rest of Europe recognizing that Canada’s allies require safe and secure access to energy as demonstrated by the Russian regime’s recent attempts to restrict energy supplies to Europe.

 

It was agreed, — That the meetings of April 29 and May 1, 2014 be devoted to the study of the opportunities for Canada and the Canadian industry to contribute to the global diversification of energy supply to Ukraine and the rest of Europe.

 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of the opportunities for Canada and the Canadian industry to contribute to the global diversification of energy supply to Ukraine and the rest of Europe, members of the Committee submit to the Clerk of the Committee, by Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 5:00 p.m., their prioritized lists of witnesses.

 

At 10:53 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
