The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised session at 4:15 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, David Christopherson, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Dan Albas, Malcolm Allen, Jay Aspin, John Carmichael, David Christopherson, Ted Falk, Alain Giguère, Bryan Hayes, Yvonne Jones and Stephen Woodworth.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Daniel Benatuil, Analyst ; Alex Smith, Analyst.

Witnesses: Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Nancy Cheng, Assistant Auditor General; Richard Domingue, Principal. Treasury Board Secretariat: Daniel Watson, Chief Human Resources Officer; Kim Gowing, Director, Pensions and Benefits Sector. Department of Finance: Nicholas Leswick, Director, Fiscal Policy Division. Department of National Defence: David Millar, Chief of Military Personnel. Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Gilles Moreau, Director General, Workforce Programs and Services. Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions: Jean-Claude Ménard, Chief Actuary. Public Sector Pension Investment Board: John Valentini, Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(g) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, May 12, 2014, the Committee commenced consideration of Chapter 1, Public Sector Pension Plans, of the Spring 2014 Report of the Auditor General of Canada, referred to the Committee on Tuesday, May 6, 2014.

Nancy Cheng, Daniel Watson, MGen Daniel Millar, A/Commr Gilles Moreau, Jean-Claude Ménard and John Valentini made statements and, with Nicholas Leswick, answered questions.

It was agreed, — That a further hour with the witnesses be scheduled on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, subject to witness availability.

At 5:21 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
