The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in camera at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 228, The Valour Building, the Chair, the Hon. Michael D. Chong, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Michael D. Chong, Joe Daniel, Jacques Gourde, Chungsen Leung, Jamie Nicholls, Lise St-Denis, Nycole Turmel and John Williamson.

 

Acting Members present: David Sweet for Corneliu Chisu.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lucie Lecomte, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 6, 2014, the Committee resumed its study of the economic situation of Canada's minority linguistic communities.
 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the routine motion adopted on November 4, 2013, the Committee will allow two (2) House of Commons pages to attend the in camera meeting.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee write a letter of appreciation to Mr. Yvon Godin to acknowledge his contribution to the Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Hon. Shelly Glover, appear before the Committee on February 26, 2015, to discuss the implementation of the Roadmap and to address stakeholders’ concerns about the management of the Roadmap during a televised meeting if possible, at least one (1) hour in length, held in Centre Block.

 

It was agreed, — That the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, the Hon. Chris Alexander, appear before the Committee on March 31, 2015, to discuss francophone immigration and all the initiatives undertaken by his department to respect its obligations under Part VII of the Official Languages Act during a televised meeting if possible, at least one (1) hour in length, held in Centre Block.

 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

At 5:06 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
