The Standing Committee on Official Languages met at 8:46 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, the Hon. Michael D. Chong, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Joyce Bateman, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Joe Daniel, Yvon Godin, Jacques Gourde, Jamie Nicholls, Manon Perreault, Lise St-Denis and John Williamson.

 

Acting Members present: Randy Hoback for Corneliu Chisu and Tilly O'Neill Gordon for John Williamson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lucie Lecomte, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Statistics Canada: Jean-Pierre Corbeil, Assistant Director, Social and Aboriginal Statistic Division; Jean-François Lepage, Analyst, Social and Aboriginal Statistic Division. Association des universités de la francophonie canadienne: Jocelyne Lalonde, Director General.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Yvon Godin gave notice of the following motion:

That the Standing Committee on Official Languages invite the Minister of Canadian Heritage to appear before May 29, 2014, to discuss the Plans and Priorities for 2014-2015 of the department for a two-hour televised session.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 6, 2014, the Committee resumed its study of the economic situation of Canada's minority linguistic communities.
 

Jean-Pierre Corbeil and Jocelyne Lalonde made statements and, with Jean-François Lepage, answered questions.

 

At 10:28 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:32 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the meeting to be held on April 29, 2014 be cancelled.

 

Jacques Gourde moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Joyce Bateman, Joe Daniel, Jacques Gourde, Randy Hoback, Tilly O'Neill Gordon — 5; NAYS: Yvon Godin, Jamie Nicholls, Manon Perreault — 3.

 

At 10:34 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:34 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

At 10:47 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
