The Special Committee on Violence Against Indigenous Women met in camera at 6:01 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Stella Ambler, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, Niki Ashton, Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Kelly Block, Lois Brown, Bob Dechert, Irene Mathyssen, Cathy McLeod, Romeo Saganash, Mark Strahl and Susan Truppe.

 

Acting Members present: Yvonne Jones for Hon. Carolyn Bennett and Manon Perreault for Jean Crowder.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst; Julie Cool, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Rama Police Service: John C. Domm, Chief of Police. First Nations Chiefs of Police Association: Doug Palson, Vice-President, Dakota Ojibway Police Service; John W. Syrette, President.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That a representative from the Native Women’s Association of Canada be invited to attend all proceedings of the Committee as an expert advisor and expert witness to the Committee.

That the representative be requested to attend each meeting of the Committee and to provide their comments orally or in writing subsequent to each meeting and that the comments be appended to the Committee’s testimony.

That in relation to their participation, if requested, reasonable travel, accommodations and living expenses be reimbursed to the representative.

 

At 6:48 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 6:52 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, October 21, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of violence against indigenous women.
 

John W. Syrette and John C. Domm made statements and answered questions.

 

At 7:54 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
