The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, David Sweet, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: John Carmichael, Joe Daniel, Hon. Mike Lake, Peggy Nash, Annick Papillon, Hon. Judy Sgro, David Sweet and Mark Warawa.

 

Acting Members present: Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet for Brian Masse and Larry Miller for Cheryl Gallant.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mathieu Frigon, Analyst; Dara Lithwick, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada: Daniel Therrien, Privacy Commissioner of Canada; Carman Baggaley, Senior International Research and Policy Analyst, Legal Services, Policy and Research Branch; Patricia Kosseim, Senior General Counsel and Director General, Legal Services, Policy and Research. Canadian Chamber of Commerce: Scott Smith, Director, Intellectual Property and Innovation Policy. Canadian Marketing Association: Wally Hill, Senior Vice President, Government and Consumer Affairs; David Elder, Special Digital Privacy Counsel.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, October 20, 2014, and the motion adopted on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill S-4, An Act to amend the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act and to make a consequential amendment to another Act.
 

Daniel Therrien made a statement and, with Patricia Kosseim, answered questions.

 

At 11:59 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:04 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Scott Smith and David Elder made statements and, with Wally Hill, answered questions.

 

At 12:59 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
