The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 8:45 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, David Sweet, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Joyce Bateman, Raymond Côté, Joe Daniel, Hon. Mike Lake, Brian Masse, David Sweet and Mark Warawa.

 

Acting Members present: Charmaine Borg for Peggy Nash, Pierre Nantel for Peggy Nash, Hon. Geoff Regan for Hon. Judy Sgro and Mike Wallace for Cheryl Gallant.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mathieu Frigon, Analyst; Édison Roy-César, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters: Martin Lavoie, Director of Policy. Conference Board of Canada: Glen Hodgson, Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist. Futurpreneur Canada: Julia Deans, Chief Executive Officer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, October 30, 2014, the Committee resumed its study of the subject matter of clauses 102 to 142 (Industrial Design Act), 174 to 182 (Radiocommunication Act) and 186 to 190 (Investment Canada Act), 191 and 192 (Broadcasting Act), 193 to 210 (Telecommunications Act) and 211 to 223 (Business Development Bank of Canada Act) of Bill C-43, A second Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 11, 2014 and other measures.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 9:47 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:53 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $7,700, for the study of the subject matter of clauses 102 to 142 (Industrial Design Act), 174 to 182 (Radiocommunication Act) and 186 to 190 (Investment Canada Act), 191 and 192 (Broadcasting Act), 193 to 210 (Telecommunications Act) and 211 to 223 (Business Development Bank of Canada Act) of Bill C-43, A second Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 11, 2014 and other measure, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That, following its consideration of the subject matter of clauses 102 to 142 (Industrial Design Act), 174 to 182 (Radiocommunication Act) and 186 to 190 (Investment Canada Act), 191 and 192 (Broadcasting Act), 193 to 210 (Telecommunications Act) and 211 to 223 (Business Development Bank of Canada Act) of Bill C-43, the Committee send a letter to the Chair of the Standing Committee on Finance informing him that the Committee has no amendments to propose.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Minister of Industry to appear before the Committee on Supplementary Estimates (B) 2014-2015, on Thursday, December 4, 2014.

 

At 10:10 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
