The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, David Sweet, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Joyce Bateman, Raymond Côté, Hon. Mike Lake, Brian Masse, Peggy Nash, Hon. Judy Sgro, David Sweet, Dave Van Kesteren and Mark Warawa.

 

Acting Members present: Devinder Shory for Cheryl Gallant.

 

Other Members present: Joyce Murray.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mathieu Frigon, Analyst; Édison Roy-César, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Citizenship and Immigration: David Manicom, Director General, Immigration Branch; Martin Mündel, Director, Temporary Resident Program Delivery Division. Department of Employment and Social Development: Alexis Conrad, Director General, Temporary Foreign Worker Directorate; Monika Bertrand, Executive Director, Transfers and Renewal, Employment Programs and Partnerships Directorate; Amy Mifflin-Sills, Director, Program policy, Skills and Employment Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, February 10, 2014, the Committee resumed its study of entertainment software industry in Canada.
 

Alexis Conrad and David Manicom made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:40 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Peggy Nash moved, — That the Standing Committee on Industry, science and technology undertake a study of recent wireless plan price increases by Canadian wireless carriers and their impact on the affordability of life for consumers and report its findings to the House by April 30, 2014.

 

Mark Warawa moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Joyce Bateman, Mike Lake, Devinder Shory, Dave Van Kesteren, Mark Warawa — 5; NAYS: Raymond Côté, Brian Masse, Peggy Nash, Judy Sgro — 4.

 

At 4:46 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:56 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Minister of Industry and the Minister of State (Small Business) to appear on the study on Main Estimates, 2014-15.

 

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $35,200.00, for the study of the impact of research, technology and innovation on the pipeline industry be adopted.

 

At 5:12 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
