The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 228, The Valour Building, the Chair, Ben Lobb, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Hedy Fry, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, Cathy McLeod, Christine Moore, Murray Rankin, Lawrence Toet, David Wilks and Terence Young.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Wayne Easter for Hon. Hedy Fry and Isabelle Morin for Matthew Kellway.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Havi Echenberg, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: National Native Addictions Partnership Foundation: Carol Hopkins, Executive Director. As individuals: Janet Smylie, Director, Well Living House, Centre for Research on Inner City Health, St. Michael's Hospital; Chris Lalonde, Professor of Psychology, University of Victoria. Royal Ottawa Health Care Group: George Weber, President and Chief Executive Officer. Psychiatric Awareness Medication Group: Janet Currie, Coordinator and Founder. Centre for Addiction and Mental Health: Jürgen Rehm, Director, Social and Epidemiological Research Department.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, April 30, 2015, the Committee resumed its study of Mental Health in Canada.
 

Chris Lalonde, by videoconference from Victoria, British Columbia, Janet Smylie, by videoconference from Toronto, Ontario, and Carol Hopkins made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:28 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:31 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Janet Currie, by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, Jürgen Rehm, by videoconference from Toronto, Ontario, and George Weber made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:16 p.m, by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit.

 

At 5:20 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
