Promising Practices to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls

Ottawa, June 04, 2015 -

The House of Commons Standing Committee on the Status of Women presented its report entitled Promising Practices to Prevent Violence against Women and Girls in the House of Commons today.

The report makes 11 recommendations to the Government of Canada that aim to prevent violence against women and girls in Canada through the implementation of promising practices that have produced encouraging results in this country and elsewhere.

The report’s findings are based on testimony that the Committee received during its study on promising practices to prevent violence against women and girls, for which 11 meetings were held between November 2014 and February 2015.

The New Democratic Party and the Liberal Party members of the Committee have appended dissenting opinions to the Committee report.

The Committee thanks witnesses for their important contribution to the study. The Committee acknowledges the dedicated efforts of individuals and organizations across Canada in their ongoing work to prevent acts of violence against women and girls.

The report can be consulted on the Committee’s webpage on the Parliament of Canada website. Individuals without access to the electronic version of the report can obtain a copy of the report from the Committee Clerk.
