The Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics met in a televised session at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Pat Martin, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Charmaine Borg, Ray Boughen, Pat Martin, LaVar Payne, Mathieu Ravignat and Scott Simms.

 

Acting Members present: Joan Crockatt for Bob Zimmer, Ted Hsu for Scott Simms, Ed Komarnicki for Patricia Davidson and Erin O'Toole for Paul Calandra.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Maxime-Olivier Thibodeau, Analyst; Miguel Bernal-Castillero, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Information Commissioner of Canada: Suzanne Legault, Information Commissioner of Canada; Layla Michaud, Director General, Corporate Services Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(h)(i), the Committee commenced its study of the subject-matter of the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2014-15: Vote 5b under OFFICES OF THE INFORMATION AND PRIVACY COMMISSIONERS OF CANADA.
 

Suzanne Legault made a statement and, with Layla Michaud, answered questions.

 

Mathieu Ravignat moved, — That the Committee send a report to the House recommending that it provide the Office of the Information Commissioner with sufficient emergency financial resources to allow for the fulfillment of the Office's mandate in this fiscal year and to ensure that an adequate level of funding is maintained in the next budget.

Debate arose thereon.

 

At 5:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
