The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 8:49 a.m. this day, in Room 268, The Valour Building, the Chair, Harold Albrecht, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Stella Ambler, Colin Carrie, François Choquette, Megan Anissa Leslie, Hon. John McKay, Lawrence Toet and Stephen Woodworth.

 

Acting Members present: Peter Braid for Robert Sopuck and Isabelle Morin for Dennis Bevington.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tim Williams, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development: Julie Gelfand, Commissioner; Andrew Ferguson, Principal; James McKenzie, Principal. Department of the Environment: John Moffet, Director General, Legislative and Regulatory Affairs; Geneviève Béchard, Director General, Monitoring and Data Services Directorate; Carolyne Blain, Executive Director, Mining and Processing; Darren Goetze, Executive Director, Water Quality Monitoring and Surveillance.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, April 23, 2015, the Committee commenced its study of the Canada Water Act Annual Report.
 

Julie Gelfand and John Moffet made statements and, with Geneviève Béchard, James McKenzie, Darren Goetze and Andrew Ferguson, answered questions.

 

François Choquette gave notice of the following motion:

That the Committee conduct a study on progress regarding the Joint Oil Sands Monitoring program, including hearing from witnesses from federally and provincially responsible agencies, as well as affected communities

 

At 10:38 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:42 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 10:47 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
