The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 11:03 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, David Tilson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Paulina Ayala, Patrick Brown, Andrew Cash, Guy Lauzon, Chungsen Leung, Hon. John McCallum, Costas Menegakis, Rathika Sitsabaiesan, David Tilson, Mike Wallace and John Weston.

 

Acting Members present: Ève Péclet for Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe and Jinny Jogindera Sims for Paulina Ayala.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Gauthier, Analyst; Melissa Pang, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: Mel Cappe, Professor, University of Toronto - School of Public Policy and Governance. Tourism Industry Association of Canada: David F. Goldstein, President and Chief Executive Officer. University of Waterloo: Feridun Hamdullahpur, President and Vice-Chancellor, Vice-Chair, U15 Group of Canadian Research Universities.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 7, 2013, the Committee commenced its study of the temporary resident visas for visitors.
 

Mel Cappe, David F. Goldstein and Feridun Hamdullahpur made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:25 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:29 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $4,800.00, for the study of subject matter of clauses 174 (Criminal Code) and 175 (Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Act) and 290 to 293 (Immigration and Refugee Protection Act) of Bill C-4, be adopted.

 

At 12:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
