The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 8:45 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, the Hon. Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Ron Cannan, Don Davies, Russ Hiebert, Ed Holder, Brian Masse, Hon. Rob Merrifield, Marc-André Morin, Erin O'Toole, Massimo Pacetti, Jasbir Sandhu and Devinder Shory.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Gordon O'Connor for Hon. Ted Menzies.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst; Pascal Tremblay, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Unifor: Jerry Dias, National President; Angelo DiCaro, National Representative, Research Department. Fisheries Council of Canada: Patrick McGuinness, President. Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters: Jayson Myers, President and Chief Executive Officer, National Office. Canadian Pork Council: Jean-Guy Vincent, Chair; Martin Rice, Executive Director.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Don Davies, it was agreed, — That the order pertaining to the rounds of questioning of witnesses, adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 be discharged and replaced with the following:

That when two (2) or fewer witnesses or organizations appear simultaneously each shall be allowed ten (10) minutes to make their opening statement and when three (3) or more witnesses or organisations appear simultaneously each shall be allowed eight (8) minutes to make their opening statement; that the order and time allotted for the questioning of witnesses in the first round be as follows: New Democratic Party (NDP) – seven (7) minutes, Conservative Party (CP) – seven (7) minutes, Liberal Party (LP) – five (5) minutes, Conservative Party (CP) – seven (7) minutes, that the order and time allotted for the questioning of witnesses in the second round be as follows: NDP – five (5) minutes, CP - five (5) minutes, NDP – five (5) minutes, CP - five (5) minutes, CP - five (5) minutes, NDP – five (5) minutes, CP - five (5) minutes, and that, if time permits, further rounds shall repeat the pattern of the first two at the discretion of the Chair.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of the Canada-European Union comprehensive economic and trade agreement (CETA).
 

Jerry Dias and Patrick McGuinness made statements and, with Angelo DiCaro, answered questions.

 

At 9:45 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:49 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Jean-Guy Vincent and Jayson Myers made statements and, with Martin Rice, answered questions.

 

At 10:47 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
