The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, the Hon. Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Ron Cannan, Don Davies, Russ Hiebert, Randy Hoback, Laurin Liu, Hon. Rob Merrifield, Marc-André Morin, Erin O'Toole, Massimo Pacetti and Devinder Shory.

 

Acting Members present: Dave MacKenzie for Randy Hoback.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: John Curtis, Senior Fellow, C.D. Howe Institute (Toronto) and the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (Geneva), Adjunct Professor, Queen's University. C.D. Howe Institute: Daniel Schwanen, Assistant Vice-President, Research. Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters: Jayson Myers, President and Chief Executive Officer. Canadian Association of Importers and Exporters: Joy Nott, President and Chief Executive Officer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, the Committee commenced its study of the positive effects of the Global Markets Action Plan.
 

By unanimous consent, on motion of Dave MacKenzie, it was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $13,100 for the study of the positive effects of the Global Markets Action Plan be adopted.

 

John Curtis and David Schwanen made statements and answered questions.

 

At 11:59 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:03 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Joy Nott, by videoconference from Toronto, Ontario, and Jayson Myers made statements and answered questions.

 

At 1:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
