The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in camera at 8:46 a.m. this day, in Room 228, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Gordon Brown, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Ray Boughen, Gordon Brown, Hon. Stéphane Dion, Matthew Dubé, Rick Dykstra, Jim Hillyer, François Lapointe, Chungsen Leung, Pierre Nantel, Blake Richards and Terence Young.

 

Acting Members present: John Rafferty for Irene Mathyssen.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Dewing, Analyst; Marion Ménard, Analyst. House of Commons: Christine Holke David, Procedural Clerk.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed operational budget in the amount of a maximum of $18,700 for the Committee's study of Canada's Preparations for the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to S.O. 108(2) the Committee undertake a review of the Canadian music industry, over the course of no more than 7 meetings, in order to: a) inform Committee members of the details and impacts of the government support on Canadian music, as well as the creators and entrepreneurs who create and distribute music in Canada; b) determine how funding is allocated; c) to establish whether the government support is meeting the objectives laid out for it, and to make recommendations to the government on how it might strengthen support for Canadian music, and report its findings to the House.

 

At 9:20 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
