The Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs met in a video recorded session at 11:00 a.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Peter Stoffer, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvain Chicoine, Corneliu Chisu, Parm Gill, Hon. Laurie Hawn, Bryan Hayes, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, Manon Perreault, John Rafferty and Peter Stoffer.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Veterans Ombudsman: Guy Parent, Veterans Ombudsman, Chief Warrant Officer (Retired); Col Denys Guérin, Senior Analyst; Gary Walbourne, Executive Director of Operations, Deputy Ombudsman.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Thursday, October 17, 2013 and section 20.1 of the Enhanced New Veterans Charter Act, the Committee resumed the statutory review of the Act - Ombudsman's related reports.
 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That one minute of silence be observed by the Committee for deceased soldiers.

 

Guy Parent and Col Denys Guérin made a statement and, with Gary Walbourne, answered questions.

 

At 12:29 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:33 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Analyst and the Clerk of the Committee prepare a draft itinerary and budget for a possible travel across Canada, by four members of the Committee plus the Chair, in relation to its study of the Statutory Review of the Enhanced New Veterans Charter Act.

 

At 1:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
