Private Members' Business

At 11:00 a.m., pursuant to Standing Order 30(6), the House proceeded to the consideration of Private Members' Business.

The Order was read for the second reading and reference to the Standing Committee on Finance of Bill C-377, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act (requirements for labour organizations).

Mr. Hiebert (South Surrey—White Rock—Cloverdale), seconded by Mr. Sweet (Ancaster—Dundas—Flamborough—Westdale), moved, — That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Finance.

Debate arose thereon.

Pursuant to Standing Order 93(1), the Order was dropped to the bottom of the order of precedence on the Order Paper.

Mr. Christopherson (Hamilton Centre), from the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, presented the Second Report of the Committee, "Chapter 4, Programs for First Nations on Reserves, of the 2011 Status Report of the Auditor General of Canada". — Sessional Paper No. 8510-411-35.

Pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee requested that the government table a comprehensive response.

Pursuant to Standing Order 45, the House proceeded to the taking of the deferred recorded division on the motion of Ms. Blanchette-Lamothe (Pierrefonds—Dollard), seconded by Mr. Marston (Hamilton East—Stoney Creek), — That this House reject calls by the Prime Minister to balance the Conservative deficit on the backs of Canada’s seniors by means such as raising the age of eligibility for Old Age Security and call on the government to make the reduction and eventual elimination of seniors’ poverty a cornerstone of the next budget.
