The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met in camera at 8:50 a.m. this day, in Room 228, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Merv Tweed, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mark Adler, Olivia Chow, Hon. Denis Coderre, Ed Holder, Isabelle Morin, Jamie Nicholls, Pierre Poilievre, Blake Richards, Mike Sullivan, Lawrence Toet, Merv Tweed and Jeff Watson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Padova, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on September 26, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of the National Public Transit Strategy.
 

It was agreed, — That amendments to the draft report be sent to the Clerk's office before the end of the day today, that they be translated and circulated to all members and, that the report be reprinted to include the amendments on time for its Tuesday, February 7, 2012, meeting.

 

At 9:00 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:01 a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Olivia Chow moved, — That the Government immediately enacts the airfare advertising regulations as prescribed in the Act to Amend the Canada Transportation Act, assented June 22, 2007 specifically "requiring carriers who advertises a price for an air service to include in the price all costs to the carrier of providing the service and to indicate in the advertisement all fees, charges and taxes collected by the carrier on behalf of another person in respect of the service, so as to enable a purchaser of the service to readily determine the total amount to be paid for the service”; and that this motion be reported back to the House.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Denis Coderre moved, — That the motion be amended by replacing the word “immediately” with the words “on April 1, 2012”.

 

The question was put on the amendment of Denis Coderre and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 7.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:YEAS: Olivia Chow, Isabelle Morin, Jamie Nicholls, Mike Sullivan — 4; NAYS: Mark Adler, Denis Coderre, Ed Holder, Pierre Poilievre, Blake Richards, Lawrence Toet, Jeff Watson — 7.

 

At 9:33 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
