The Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 1:08 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Scott Reid, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Hon. Irwin Cotler, Nina Grewal, Russ Hiebert, Pierre Jacob, Wayne Marston, Scott Reid and David Sweet.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Melissa Radford, Analyst; Erin Shaw, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Amnesty International: Mohamed Lotfy, Researcher, Middle East and North Africa Programme, International Secretariat; Alex Neve, Secretary General.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motions adopted by the Subcommittee on Thursday, November 3, 2011 and on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, the Subcommittee resumed its study on the persecution of the Copt community in Egypt.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 1:54 p.m., Wayne Marston took the Chair.

 

At 2:01 p.m., the Chair took the Chair.

 

At 2:06 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:07 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of the human rights rituation in Myanmar, the proposed budget in the amount of $ 22,515, be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development.

 

It was agreed, — That the study name be changed to the human rights situation in Burma.

 

At 2:21 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
