The Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs met in camera at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Joe Preston, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Chris Charlton, Joe Comartin, Marc Garneau, Greg Kerr, Alexandrine Latendresse, Tom Lukiwski, Dave MacKenzie, Joe Preston, Scott Reid, Philip Toone and John Williamson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michel Bédard, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Chair presented the First Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:

That members of the Committee participate in an informal visit of Elections Canada on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

That the Committee meet with a delegation from Kenya, led by the Hon. Kenneth Marende, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Kenya, on Thursday, October 6, 2011, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

That the Committee invite Marc Mayrand, Chief Electoral Officer, to appear on Thursday, October 6, 2011, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

That moving forward, the Committee begin a study on the Report of the Chief Electoral Officer on amendments desirable to the Canada Elections Act following the 40th general election.

That at the conclusion of the study on the Report of the Chief Electoral Officer, the Committee consider commencing a study on the Referendum Act.

That the Subcommittee on Private Member`s Business meet on Tuesday Oct 18, 2011 to consider the votability of the items placed on the order of precedence.

 

It was agreed, — That the report of the Subcommittee be concurred in.

 

At 11:16 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
