The Standing Committee on National Defence met in camera at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, James Bezan, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Chris Alexander, James Bezan, Corneliu Chisu, Cheryl Gallant, Jack Harris, Jean-François Larose, Christine Moore, Rick Norlock, Ted Opitz and Mark Strahl.

 

Acting Members present: Robert Chisholm for Tarik Brahmi and Kirsty Duncan for Hon. John McKay.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Wolfgang Koerner, Analyst; Melissa Radford, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of National Defence: RAdm Patrick Finn, Chief of Staff, Materiel Group; Kevin Lindsey, Assistant Deputy Minister, Chief Financial Officer, Finance and Corporate Services; Michael Martin, Senior Associate Deputy Minister; MGen David Millar, Chief of Military Personnel; MGen Ian C. Poulter, Chief of Programme. Communications Security Establishment Canada: John Forster, Chief.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of the Defence of North America, the Committee travel to Winnipeg, Manitoba, on September 23, 2013, and that the necessary staff do accompany the Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That Deputy Minister Richard Fadden be invited to appear pursuant to Standing Order 111.

 

It was agreed, — That MGen David Millar, Chief of Military Personnel, be invited to appear in relation to the Committee's study of the Care of Ill and Injured Canadian Forces Members and in relation to the Reserve Force Pension Plan.

 

At 4:12 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:20 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee resumed consideration of the Main Estimates 2013-14: Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 under NATIONAL DEFENCE, referred to the Committee on Monday, February 25, 2013.
 

The witnesses answered questions.

 

At 4:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
