The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in a televised session at 11:00 a.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, the Hon. Michael D. Chong, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Joyce Bateman, Tyrone Benskin, Corneliu Chisu, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Hon. Stéphane Dion, Pierre Dionne Labelle, Yvon Godin, Jacques Gourde, Guy Lauzon, Élaine Michaud, Bernard Trottier and David Wilks.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Suzie Cadieux, Procedural Clerk. Library of Parliament: Lucie Lecomte, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages: Graham Fraser, Commissioner of Official Languages; Ghislaine Charlebois, Assistant Commissioner, Compliance Assurance Branch; Johane Tremblay, General Counsel, Legal Affairs Branch; Sylvain Giguère, Assistant Commissioner, Policy and Communications Branch. Fédération culturelle canadienne-française: Éric Dubeau, Executive Director; Simone Saint-Pierre, Chief of Communications. Fédération des aînées et aînés francophones du Canada: Jean-Luc Racine, Director General.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f), the Committee resumed consideration of the study of Linguistic duality during the 150th anniversary celebrations of Canadian Confederation in 2017.
 

Graham Fraser made a statement and, with Sylvain Giguère, answered questions.

 

At 12:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:09 p.m., the sitting resumed the sitting resumed in a non-televised session.

 

Éric Dubeau and Jean-Luc Racine made statements and, with Simone Saint-Pierre, answered questions.

 

At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
