The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, David Sweet, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Peter Braid, John Carmichael, Cheryl Gallant, Peter Julian, Mike Lake, Hélène LeBlanc, Phil McColeman, Lee Richardson, David Sweet and Glenn Thibeault.

Acting Members present: Ted Hsu for Hon. Geoff Regan and José Nunez-Melo for Brian Masse.

Associate Members present: Ron Cannan.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mathieu Frigon, Analyst ; Dillan Theckedath, Analyst.

Witnesses: Department of Industry: Helen McDonald, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Spectrum, Information Technologies and Telecommunications; Janet DiFrancesco, Director General, Electronic Commerce Branch; Michael Jenkin, Director General, Office of Consumer Affairs; Chris Padfield, Senior Director, Digital Economy Planning and Coordination. Competition Bureau: Lisa Campbell, Deputy Commissioner of Competition, Fair Business Practices Branch; Matthew Kellison, Acting Assistant Deputy Commissioner, Civil Matters Branch.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, September 26, 2011, the Committee commenced its study of the e-commerce market in Canada.

Helen McDonald and Lisa Campbell made statements and, with Janet DiFrancesco, Michael Jenkin, and Matthew Kellison, answered questions.

At 5:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
