The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Ed Komarnicki, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, Brad Butt, Chris Charlton, Ryan Cleary, Rodger Cuzner, Joe Daniel, Ed Komarnicki, François Lapointe, Kellie Leitch, Colin Mayes, Phil McColeman and Devinder Shory.

 

Other Members present: Djaouida Sellah.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: André Léonard, Analyst; Sandra Gruescu, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada: Nick Busing, President and Chief Executive Officer; Steve Slade, Vice-President, Research and Analysis. Canadian Medical Association: John Haggie, President. Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists: Claudia von Zweck, Executive Director. Canadian Physiotherapy Association: Michael Brennan, Chief Executive Officer.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

By unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee examine the Main Estimates, and invite the Minister of Labour and the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development to appear concurrently on the Main Estimates along with departmental officials during the scheduled meeting of Thursday, May 30, 2012 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

 

At 3:32 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:17 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, the Committee resumed its studies of “Fixing the Skills Gap: Addressing Existing Labour Shortages in High Demand Occupations” and “Understanding Labour Shortages: Addressing Barriers to Filling Low-Skilled Jobs”.

By unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit to hear Nick Busing's statement.

By unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit to hear Michael Brennan's statement.

 

Michael Brennan made a statement.

 

By unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit to hear Claudia von Zweck's statement.

 

Claudia von Zweck made a statement.
