The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:29 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Ed Komarnicki, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Brad Butt, Jean Crowder, Rodger Cuzner, Joe Daniel, Ed Komarnicki, Kellie Leitch, Colin Mayes, Phil McColeman, Claude Patry, Manon Perreault and Devinder Shory.

 

Acting Members present: Wladyslaw Lizon for Joe Daniel and François Pilon for Carol Hughes.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sandra Gruescu, Analyst; André Léonard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Cameco Corporation: Gary Merasty, Vice-President, Corporate Social Responsability. SIBI Employment and Training: Kim Radbourne, Board Member, Executive Director, Moose Cree First Nation. ABC Life Literacy Canada: Margaret Eaton, President. Association of Canadian Community Colleges: Michèle Clarke, Director, Government Relations and Policy Research, Public Affairs; Suzanne Taschereau, Director, Essential Skills, Canadian Partnerships.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on November 17, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of Skills Development in Remote Rural Communities in an Era of Fiscal Restraint.
 

Gary Merasty and Kim Radbourne made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:28 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:39 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Margaret Eaton and Michèle Clarke made statements and, with Suzanne Taschereau, answered questions.

 

At 5:21 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:23 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Chair be authorized to purchase an official gift on behalf of the Committee for its meeting with a parliamentary delegation from the Republic of Indonesia, on Thursday, December 8, 2011.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed operational budget in the amount of $25,000.00 for the Committee's study of skills development in remote rural communities be adopted.

 

At 5:27 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
