The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 228, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Kelly Block, Patrick Brown, Colin Carrie, Libby Davies, Matthew Kellway, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, Dany Morin, Djaouida Sellah, Joy Smith and David Wilks.

Acting Members present: Massimo Pacetti for Hon. Hedy Fry.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Martha Butler, Analyst ; Karin Phillips, Analyst.

Witnesses: BIOTECanada: Andrew Casey, President and Chief Executive Officer. Toronto Rehabilitation Institute-University Health Network: Geoff Fernie, Institute Director, Research; Promise Xu, Junior Commercialization Officer. Norgen Biotek Corporation: Yousef Haj-Ahmad, President and Chief Executive Officer. Business Development Bank of Canada: Paul Kirkconnell, Executive Vice-President, Venture Capital, Montreal. Association of Canadian Academic Healthcare Organizations: Chris Paige, Vice-President, Research, University Health Network; Chris Power, Chair, President and Chief Executive Director of Capital Health, Halifax.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 9, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of technological innovation.

Chris Power, Chris Paige, Yousef Haj-Ahmad, Andrew Casey, Geoff Fernie and Paul Kirkconnell made statements and answered questions.

At 5:28 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
