The Standing Committee on Health met at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Kelly Block, Patrick Brown, Colin Carrie, Libby Davies, Hon. Hedy Fry, Matthew Kellway, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, Dany Morin, Djaouida Sellah, Joy Smith and Mark Strahl.

 

Acting Members present: Dean Allison for Patrick Brown and Carol Hughes for Libby Davies.

 

Other Members present: Hon. Ralph Goodale.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Raphaelle Deraspe, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Chief.

 

Witnesses: Public Health Network Council: André Corriveau, Provincial/Territorial Co-Chair. Government of Yukon: Brendan Hanley, Chief Medical Officer of Health, Department of Health and Social Services. Public Health Agency of Canada: Frank Plummer, Chief Science Officer, Scientific Director General, National Microbiology Laboratory; John Spika, Director General, Centre For Immunization and Respiratory Infectious Diseases. Government of Nova Scotia: Robert Strang, Chief Medical Officer of Health, Department of Health and Wellness.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, September 27, 2012, the Committee commenced its study of vaccine priority lists during pandemics.
 

André Corriveau, by videoconference from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Robert Strang, by videoconference from Halifax, Nova Scotia, and John Spika made statements and, with Frank Plummer, by videoconference from Winnipeg, Manitoba, answered questions.

 

At 11:59 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:00 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Brendan Hanley, by videoconference from Whitehorse, Yukon, made a statement and, with Frank Plummer, by videoconference from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and John Spika, answered questions.

 

At 12:46 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:47 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of vaccine priority lists during pandemics, the proposed budget in the amount of $9,100 be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hear from witnesses in relation to Bill S-206, An Act respecting World Autism Awareness Day, during the first hour of the meeting scheduled for Tuesday, October 16, 2012 and proceed to clause-by-clause consideration during the second hour.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee travel by bus to CAE Healthcare on a Tuesday when the House of Commons is sitting.

 

It was agreed, — That the Clerk of the Committee contact CAE Healthcare to confirm the date that the organization can welcome the Members of Parliament.

 

At 1:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
