The Standing Committee on Health met in camera at 8:47 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Kelly Block, Patrick Brown, Colin Carrie, Libby Davies, Parm Gill, Matthew Kellway, Wladyslaw Lizon, Dany Morin, Djaouida Sellah, Joy Smith and Mark Strahl.

 

Acting Members present: Dan Albas for Parm Gill and Kirsty Duncan for Hon. Hedy Fry.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Raphaelle Deraspe, Analyst; Karin Phillips, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Society of Canada: Derek Walton, Member of Advocacy Committee. Baycrest Hospital: Galit Kleiner-Fisman, Neurologist and Movement Disorders Specialist. Neurological Health Charities Canada: Garth M. Bray, Chair, Scientific Advisory Committee; Ian McDowell, Vice-Chair, Scientific Advisory Committee. Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada: Deanna Groetzinger, Vice-President, Government Relations and Policy; Marie Vaillant, Vice-Chair, Ontario Division Board of Directors.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 9:04 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:06 a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, October 3, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of neurological diseases.
 

Derek Walton, by videoconference from Barrie, Ontario, Galit Kleiner-Fisman, Marie Vaillant, Deanna Groetzinger and Garth M. Bray made statements and, with Ian McDowell, answered questions.

 

At 10:00 a.m., Libby Davies took the Chair.

 

At 10:48 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
